by: Ed Santoyo, OMI
Twenty-six (26) Oblates from the District of Cotabato marked the 200th Anniversary Celebration in Broce Parish, Dinaig, Maguindanao of OMI presence last January 25, 2016.
As early as 800 am, Indigenous peoples, Muslims and Christians patiently waited for the medical and dental mission organized by the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC), government agencies and Barangay officials. The Oblates began the day with an invigorating breakfast. Morning prayer and Eucharistic adoration commenced at 830 am after which the Holy Eucharist followed. Fr. James Mallo, the Parochial Vicar of Kulaman, presided and preached during the mass. He stressed that the proclamation of the Gospel is the duty of all baptized Christians. Moreover, he emphasized the necessity of prayer for Oblate priests and brothers who also experience weakness and failure.
Lunch was served at shortly before noon. The menu included spaghetti, and chicken pastel. The highlight of the celebration was the distribution of grocery items that consisted of 4 kls. of rice, sugar, coffee, canned goods, and detergent bars. Two hundred (200) families were identified beneficiaries from the entire parish. After a survey of who was the poorest of the poor from the community, chapel leaders submitted a list of recipients to Fr. Wilfredo Cabrera, OMI, the parish priest.
In the afternoon, the formators from the aspirancy, postulancy and novitiate played basketball with the formands. In the evening, fun focussed on the boodle fight that promoted camaraderie and unity.
Indeed, it was a day of prayer, sharing and fun for the Oblates and co-workers in mission.
